The Grimaldines, Word Music Festival in Grimaud

For the twelfth year the festival of World Music, The Grimaldines, takes place from July 15th till August 19th, 2014. The Grimaldines is 6 Tuesdays to open yourself to the world! Free street entertainments and Concerts in the castle of Grimaud : North America, Latin America, Africa, Mediterranean Sea...
We went last Tuesday for the theme North America. From Toulon it's 1:15 hour drive, so it's the opportunity to spend the afternoon and visit Grimaud and Port Grimaud.
Port Grimaud

 Grimaud

Download the free guide from the Tourism Board in english to stroll in the streets of Grimaud and discover its history. You will learn for example that the streets of the village have no proper noun, consequence of a municipal decision taken in 1958 "to keep the character of an old Provençal village".

We took advantage of free access concerts in the streets of Grimaud and we particularly enjoyed the wandering of The Brass Band Le SNOB et Cie "Glisssssendo", very intriguing ! Eight musicians slide frivolously, dressed in long black dresses,  playing in a strange way the standards of Rock such as "Kashmir" of Led Zeppelin, "Atom Heart Mother" of Pink Floyd or Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" ... Do you remember this music? Sure you do, listen ....

There was also Bernard Adamus, a singer-songwriter from Quebec with Polish origins singing in French folk songs, blues and Country music and Big Fat Butterfly, a jazz band playing New Orleans tunes from 20/30s.

As you can see The Grimaldines are full of musical discoveries, don't miss it !
Every Tuesday until August, 19th.
